The Dave Laut Memorial Fund

Tragic Passing of Dave Laut Shocks Ventura County

This Friday night, the Hueneme Vikings will take their home field against West Ranch to open the 2009 football season. But there will be much more at stake for this year's Vikings squad than retribution for an 0-10 2008 season. They will be playing with the tragic news of the murder of their Athletic Director heavy in their hearts, and fresh on their minds.

According to Police reports, Dave Laut stepped outside of his Oxnard home at around midnight on Thursday night to check on a noise that had awakened him.  He was confronted by prowlers in his yard, and then mercilessly gunned down and killed.

Nothing can take away the pain and devastation being felt by Coach Laut's friends, family, students, athletes and fellow community members.  But Home Field Sports, along with the County Schools Federal Credit Union and Rusty's Pizza parlors have partnered together to create the Dave Laut Memorial Fund to ease some of the financial burden facing the Laut family in this tragic time.

On Friday, September 4th, Rusty's Pizza Parlors throughout Ventura County will donate 20% of their proceeds to the Dave Laut Memorial Fund, on the same night that the Vikings take the field in their season opener.  The game will be broadcast live on NewsTalk 1520AM KVTA and the Mighty AM 1400 KKZZ, and here on Home Field Sports. The public is invited to join the Hueneme Vikings immediately following the game at Rusty's in Port Hueneme as they gather to remember their fallen leader.
